Central America is an isthmus connecting North and South America. As of a 2012 estimate, it was home to roughly 42.7 Million people. Mexico City is the most populous city in the region and in North America, home to nearly 9 million people.
While the exact definition of Central America depends on who you ask, we've decided to include eight sovereign states: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico. Mexico is not usually included in definitions of Central America, but we've added it here because of its geographic proximity and shared dominant language (Spanish).
